Oprah Winfrey is an America media executive, actress, talk show host, television producer, and philanthropist. She is best known for the Oprah Winfrey show, broadcast from Chicago. She is the richest African American of the 20th century and North America’s first black multi-billionaire. She grew up in poverty in Mississippi to a teenage single mother and was raised in Milwaukee. By 19 years old, she was the co-anchor for the local evening news. She popularized and revolutionized the tabloid talk show genre pioneered by Phil Donahue. In 1994, she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Her show focuses on literature, self improvement, mindfulness, and spirituality. President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She owns her own television network, the Oprah Winfrey Network.
